ABSTRACT
Cellphones, computers, televisions bombard us with information daily. They refer to places near or far away that we relate to only in an abstract notion of location. However, new technological advancements have brought us to reconsider our standpoint and the way we perceive our surroundings. The 2012 Biennale in Venice, under the title of Common Ground, hosted the Russian pavilion which participated with its exhibition ‘Victory over the Future’. The QR code walls of the main showcase were actually a window to the future were information and space meet in a seamless and ubiquitous manner. It is a foretelling of a future that is approaching faster than we thought, a time where computers will “vanish into the background”, weaving “themselves into the fabric of everyday life until they are indistinguishable from it”, as Mark Weiser eloquently put.  It is therefore, this paper’s aim to examine the new and intriguing manifestations of the new informational space and the link between immaterial information and the very tangible world of location.
